Uwell has released yet another iteration of the Caliburn and this time it’s called the UWELL CALIBURN A2. The Caliburn series of devices has long been the devices to beat for pod vapes, with many manufacturers trying and failing to achieve the high levels of performance, popularity, and success that vapers associate with the Caliburn name.

The original Caliburn was first released in 2019. Its slim and lightweight design, along with the warm and loose MTL draw that it provided, made it instantly popular among vapers. Next came the Caliburn G which, although providing better performance than the original, sported a different and beefier design.

The Caliburn A2 is a lot like the original Caliburn but with a more modern design and new pods, among other changes. The A2 will fire at 15W and it has a 520mAh battery that recharges with Type-C charging. It comes with two 0.9Ω pods that each have a 2ml ejuice capacity.

Design & Build Quality

 

The Caliburn A2 really sticks to the look and feel of the original Caliburn but also brings the design into the modern era with less straight edges and a more rounded shape. It’s a good looking device, especially in the blue color that I’m using. It’s available in six colors: blue, green, black, grey, orange, and iris purple (a two tone gradient from blue to red).

The Uwell Caliburn A2 is nearly identical in size to the original at 110mm tall, 21.3mm wide, and 11.7mm thick. The difference in size from the original is fractions of millimeters. The body is made of aluminum alloy and it only weighs only 31g. This is the perfect size and weight for a pod vape — perfectly portable and unobtrusive. There is a downside to this though; more than a few times I’ve put the A2 in my pocket absentmindedly and then wondered where it went. You really can’t feel that it’s on you!

Branding is subtle and kept to a minimum. “Caliburn” is printed on the front of the device, just above an LED indicator. On the backside there’s a small UWELL logo. The device has a generally clean appearance and the logos don’t attract the eye too much.

The firing button is circular and located in the perfect position for thumb-firing. When I grab the A2, my thumb rests naturally on the fire button. Firing with your index finger is less comfortable but it’s also an option.

The A2 also features draw-activated firing if you prefer not to use the button at all; just draw on the mouthpiece to vape. The device will fire at the same 15W regardless of how you activate it.

Caliburn A2 Features :

One new feature of the A2 that immediately stands out is the ejuice viewing window. It’s rather large and cut out of the device just under where the pod attaches. This allows you to see the lower two-thirds of the pod when it’s inserted so you can check your ejuice level without removing it. I like this large, front-cut window much better than the small and thin side window on previous Caliburn devices. The only issue is that the window is only on one side of the device so if you’re in a low-light situation it’s hard to see your juice level.

The pod attaches magnetically to the battery and the magnets are strong enough that the pod won’t come out accidentally. There is a tiny bit of pod wiggle if you try moving the pod around, but none in regular day to day use.

The overall quality of the Caliburn A2 is just as good as the Caliburn G, and that was a step up from the original. In my opinion, the design of the A2 makes it the best looking Caliburn device yet. The rounded edges and simple appearance give it a neat but attractive appearance. Add to this that it’s super light and very portable and you have an all-around winner.

How to Use the Caliburn A2

Like previous Caliburns, the A2 is very,very easy to use. The pods have the coil built into them and these pods are fully replaceable so you don’t have to worry about changing coils. There are also no settings to adjust — just pop off the top cap, fill it up, and you’re ready to vape.

Turning on the Caliburn A2 is done by quickly pressing the fire button 5 times. Take your pod and squeeze the mouthpiece cap to remove it. From here, take your e-juice bottle and stick the nozzle into the red membrane on the top of the pod. Fill the pod up and replace the top cap.

All things considered, this is about as easy as it gets for a pod vape. Even a totally new vaper will have no problem using the Caliburn A2 as there really isn’t anything that you can do wrong or screw up. It’s a straightforward and easy device to set up and vape with.

Caliburn A2 Battery Life :

The 520mAh battery on the A2 is a downgrade from the 690mAh battery on the Caliburn G. They both fire at 15W so as a result, the A2 does provide less battery life than its predecessor.

The A2 has a Type-C charging port at the bottom of the device that allows it to charge up to 90% in just 35 minutes and to full battery in 45 minutes.

When you draw there’s an LED that lights up to indicate your battery level. Green is over 60%, blue is 30-60%, and red is below 30%. When the battery dies the red light will flash 10 times in a row and refuse to fire.

Performance

Since the pods are 0.9Ω and the Caliburn A2 fires at 15W, regular nicotine or nicotine salts can both be used with good results. For my testing I tried a 6mg 70VG ejuice, as well as 25mg and 35mg nicotine salts in 70VG, 60VG, and 50/50 ratios.

One great strength of these pods is that they handled all of these ejuice ratios without wicking issues or leaking. At no point did I feel like I was going to get a dry hit, even when I ran the pod down lower than the ‘minimum’ level indicated on the pod. . All things considered, I can’t fault the A2 because it’s still one of the best pod vapes out there.
